Desiccant Sachets

Desiccant sachets are the simplest method of managing the effects of humidity on products during both shipping and prolonged storage.

Desiccant sachets for transportation are usually specified to provide adequate protection for the duration of transportation with a built-in factor of safety for a projected time.

Desiccant sachets for storage generally require a more detailed study of the product being packaged, the type of packaging being used, the required storage time & the environment in which stored.

Silica gel & Bentonite clay desiccant sachets provide an economic way of protecting against moisture damage during transit and storage. These bags are typically filled with between 1g -1kg.

Silica gel desiccant is synthetically produced from sodium silicate and has an adsorption capacity of approximately 20% (by weight) at a relative humidity of 40% at 25°C.

Bentonite Clay is a naturally occurring product which is mined and activated (fired) to create its desiccant properties. Bentonite clay exhibits similar adsorption properties to Silica gel at 25oC.

Desiccant Solutions can also supply sachets that conform to many worldwide standards & specifications, including:

  • Mil-Stds
  • DIN Specs
  • Def-Stans
  • AFNOR

The addition of a colour change indicator card within the packaged environment will provide an at a glance, indication of the packaging integrity with regard to as received humidity conditions.

Generally, for packaging applications a card which indications within the range of 30-60%RH will suffice. Here at Desiccant solutions, we promote the use Cobalt Di-chloride Free indicator cards. These comply with the current REACH legislation (2021). These indicators offer the distinctive Blue (dry) to Pink (wet) colour change.

We can offer other indicator cards of other chemistries if applications dictate these include:

  • Cobalt Free
  • Cobalt DiChloride

We can offer other adsorbents for specific applications these include:

  • Molecular Sieves
  • Activated Carbon
  • Activated Alumina

& many more.
